| • |
You should carefully inspect your child for eggs, nits, or lice daily for at least two weeks after an infestation.
| • |
Check all other family members for lice and repeat all necessary steps for each infested person.
| • |
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 seven to ten days after the first application of lice killing products to kill any newly hatched lice and prevent reinfestation.
| • |
Don't borrow or share personal items such as combs
or brushes, barrettes or hair ribbons, headbands or sweatbands.
| • |
Don't borrow or share garments such as hats, scarves, jackets, sweaters, helmets, baseball caps, headphones, stuffed animals or pillows.
| • |
Don't store or stack hats or coats with those belonging to other children. Instead, stuff hats into coat sleeves and put the coat in a backpack or hang it so it doesn't touch other coats.
| • |
Have your child hold a towel or washcloth over their face to prevent contact with the eyes and use towels to prevent damage to clothing.
| • |
Apply product to DRY hair only.
| • |
Massage product into the hair, working in one section at a time, until the scalp is thoroughly wet. Apply product from roots to ends of hair, as lice can crawl through the hair very quickly.
| • |
Once the entire scalp is saturated, allow product to sit for 10 minutes.
| • |
If using a shampoo, add water to hair until a lather forms and shampoo as usual, being sure to rinse thoroughly. If using a mousse, rinse thoroughly with warm water and then wash hair using soap or regular shampoo.
| • |
Use spray on all non-washable items such as furniture, car interiors, or mattresses.
| • |
After spraying infested areas, vacuum rugs and carpets and dispose of the vacuum cleaner bags immediately after use.
| • |
Wash all clothing, hats, scarves, towels, coats, and bed linens in hot water and dry on high heat for a minimum of 20 minutes.
| • |
Dry-clean any non-washable items that can be dry-cleaned.
| • |
Combs and brushes can be disinfected by soaking them in hot water (at least 135oF) for 10 minutes.
| • |
Place stuffed animals and pillows in plastic bags and seal them tightly for at least 2 weeks.
